Happy 8th Birthday Zombie Safe Area! After 8 Years the Zombie Safe Area Containment Facility for the Undead is still holding strong, As are the Walls and the Security procedures and protocols in place. All thanks to our steadfast & vigilant Commanders and Vice Commanders of all our Divisions and ofcourse our very loyal fans! Thank You Everybody and Happy 8 Years Anniversary!
Thanks again to D-Undertaker for creating Z.S.A. and to all loyal admins for keeping it alive!!!!! #ZSA8YearsBirthday
We have lived to yet another anniversary, 6 years and still biting ! Keeping you safe for six years!
If this were a post zombie apocalyptic period imagine the accomplishment of not being devoured by the living dead or even worse killed, captured, tortured by gangs and terrorists? We have come a long way from the first day when D-Undertaker created Z.S.A. to the Z.S.A. staff that have often contributed to our many successes at our main headquarters or our divisions around the globe, to our thousands of thousands of loyal fans! We have encountered laughter, anger, happiness sadness and betrayals, but today we celebrate another day of being alive & well while keeping in mind the dangers that lurk out there, the very real ones : the living! The Dead refuse to die, and among the living there are those who refuse to leave the living alone! Both of them are pests that can seriously ruin your day. In a post ZPOC world the gangs of thugs would rule the day and night looking for both food and slaves. The survival groups out there would have to be very vigilant who they trust, starting with their own. You may have the most sophisticated zombie safe area with walls and security systems impenetrable from the outside, but all it takes is one traitor inside to open the gates and allow a flood of the living dead to enter. No safe area is 100% fool proof, negligence or malicious behavior can bring us down. I dont care your reasons, mental stress or power hungry but if you betray us, you become zombie bait!
HOW DO YOU SURVIVE THE ZOMBIE OUTBREAK?
By now ZSA fans know the basics, the 1st survival method is mental & for those who believe is some kind of higher power, spiritual aswell. At the end of the day your own attitude of confidence, empathy and justice will help you realize whats important and what’s not. If you are not mentally prepared in life for crisis, disasters of any kind you won’t survive a zombie outbreak. Panic is your worst enemy. Those around you who panic is just as bad. 2nd is physical preparation, your body needs to be healthy & strong. Sports, exercise, diet, water and controlling any illness you struggle with. 3rd is knowing your surroundings, having an escape plan to bug out or bug in, a plan that yourself and family or friends have worked out and practiced by doing real life drills. How to communicate when phones & internet is down, because face it, not long after an outbreak all forms of modern technology will go down or be shut down by the authorities in a bid to control the situation and limit mass panic. One of my very first posts on ZSA was about that. Agreeing on a meeting point before hand where all your team will meet when there is an outbreak is how you re group fast and will find all those you need to send messages to. They can then carry more messages to others, but first you need to get to that meeting point. Always have an alternative meeting place incase the first point happened to be over run by zombies or barred by security & defense officials. Planning is everything. It is the entire reason behind ZSA, plan for any type of disaster, man made, natural or zombies. 4th is prepper training how to hoard food, grow basic things, fetch & purify water. Truth be told without water your survival plan is screwed from the get go. Water is life it is said. It is true. You need water to survive. The more you know how to grow, the less you have to scavenge. So many people will be scavenging and you will encounter some very bad people if you depend on “leftovers from the pre apocalypse time period” plus those are bound to run out sooner or later. You would always have to be careful that you arent stealing some living persons provisions. If you do, then you would be no different from the thugs. Will any of that even matter in such a world? For us we hope it will if we want to bring back a world with some kind of order and respect. 5th is some basic MEDICAL knowledge , however basic it will save you and yours when there is no doctor around. Lastly 6th is your own defense and that of your loved ones. You cannot expect help from anyone else, nor trust anyone who says they will protect you. If you want to learn the hard way, be my guest and trust others, you will pay the price and so will your companions in the worst possible ways. Trust your instinct and have whatever available tools you need to fight and fend for yourself. Teach your companions to do the same as much as they can. Protect yourself by knowing how to defend yourself. Those damn zombies will not kill themselves, you have to do it.
Worth mentioning is ofcourse the notable passing of the father of the modern zombie movie genre & subculture, George A Romero who directed some of the greatest zombie classics that sealed the image of the modern zombie present even today with such hits as The Walking Dead or Resident Evil. Romero passed away on July 16th 2017 at the age of 77 we hope he rests in peace and if not, then he will rise from the grave! Active in public life until the very end, Romeros’s legacy will last longer than any doomsday apocalypse!
Stay prepared, stay zombie free and remember our motto is to Protect, to Fight and to Win! Contego, Pugna, Victoria!
So Happy Birthday to us! July 24, 2011 was our start date and it was on a facebook page! That page has since been eaten up by zombies, but a new one was created. Its been fun and from one person who created it, to over 70 admins of dozens of divisions worldwide! A combination of over 50K fans from all divisions!
If you are on facebook JOIN our birthday event please and share with others!
Through good and bad times we have fought the hordes and the evil thugs alike. It wasnt always easy, but sometimes tons of fun. The strong survived, the smart built the safe areas and the dedicated fought the undead! Together for another 5 years and more and we stand a good chance to make it beyond the apocalypse and into a new era of and a reboot of the human race. Stay zombie free and ZSA4LIFE!
This Halloween we remember that one day Zombies will be real hopefully and you wont need a costume!
Its that time of the year again were everyone else becomes as creepy as you! You being if you are a horror fan like us at ZSA! Zombies, clowns, werewolves, witches, politicians, these are the scariest costumes you could wear and we love it! Many of our folks at ZSA are choosing to be zombies because we simply love it, but some of us are Goths like myself and Vampires is what i’m doing! Well to be honest its a year round thing, but like I said, its fun to overdo it on Halloween! Just a little, moderation is always a good thing. Blood is scarce nowadays -_- lol
💀 Is Halloween Changing?
I’m especially worried how Halloween spirit is being massacred by governing issues these days aswell as things that just ruin Halloween. For starters kids in America want money rather than candy, you could say they are getting savvy and with the times, but I say they are getting greedy, careless. This will maybe be the generation that will destroy Halloween to replace it with fads and trends that have nothing to do with dressing up in fantasy, horror costumes and letting this feast be for kids to meet the neighborhood and adults some party time as it was all this time! Not to mention the butthurt and offense over everything these days! I mean ZSA got a message that a Halloween article of scary lawn decorations was offensive…Excuse me? Its halloween, what else are we to put up? Care bears so no one is offended? That would probably offend someone also by the way! In France due to terrorism scares the police have advised no costumes carry real life looking weapons as the police might take it as a threat and people might panic. Last year a guy in costume and fake gun, pretended it was real and terrorized a party and now we get these new rules, ruining Halloween for the rest of us all! Soon in America also! Ah this world being ruined by the nasty who misuse their freedoms and make life hard for the rest of us, I guess dressing up as Sheriff Rick Grimes this Halloween is out of the question if you are in France! Blasphemy lol. But ironically dressing up as a giant cockroach is fine! Halloween is also a money making business, it brings 2 billion dollars to the candy industry in America, but if you brush your teeth, it wont cost you that much. Plus in moderation once again. Dried fruits are also one of my favorite and no its not candy bashing, its extra fun! I love Halloween, i’m going to get some small chocolates if my busy schedule allows!
Well anyhow, all in all Americans and the world who love American traditions despite what they say are enjoying Halloween. So accompany your kids for trick or treat, stay home watch a scary movie, go to the movies with pals, have a zombie pinata party with friends, or scare your neighbor with a friendly prank and try not to get shot. Whatever you do have a Happy and Safe Halloween! Next time this year the zombies might have overtaken the world so best enjoy life now while you still can.
Want to know more about Halloween? Well how about that, for more on Halloween and where it originally came from, see our article from last year in the link below!
July 24th 2011, was the day after being a fan of the zombie genre for years and then watching the walking dead season 1, the facebook zombie pages enthusiasm was at its best and Facebook was also! Pages were flourishing and people were happy and I wanted to make a page also and I came up with the name Zombie Safe Area as it seemed original compared to what I was seeing on facebook and it is what most Zombie Survivors need as a base in the ZPOC. Some other zombies pages helped me out when I had just 10 likes, and it went up and later I added some new admins & many new awesome members and it went zomballistic from there. We have had our Ups and Downs but thats life in the Zombie Apocalypse for ya.
ZSA thanks you all for making it such a fun ride! Couldnt have done it without all our fans and ZSA family!
What a year it has been! For years we have been hunting zombies, enjoying zombie movies and dreaming of doing something! Then in July 2011 finally our page was created on facebook, and we are progressing to do more, much much more! We thank all our awesome members who have made it all possible, just by being there, encouraging us, and learning from us! We will continue to protect, fight & win this Z-War! Protecting humanity is our goal! We also aim to prepare, entertain & educate you! We hope the next year will be better for all of us! Together we will fight any zombie outbreak and apocalypse that might befall mankind! Being prepared, ready and waiting all basically the same lol is what its all about. You have nothing to lose for it’s all useful in any kind of emergency! There are so many we couldnt thank all, our ZOPEC allies, aswell as many Zombie hunters, editors groups and friends who help us all the time! So one big thank you to you all and lets celebrate this new zombie year 2012! Stay warm & cozy & always cool minded! Lets make every bite worth it!
Thats right folks, we now have our HQ’s working and running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for your safety needs! We build them high so no matter how high the zombies go, we can always go higher! Visit us anyday, except on Z-Day!
Interview conducted by 3 way chat on Facebook 1/11/11
Hello guys, so I can get all 3 points of view I’m gonna post questions on here over the next day and put together interview from this …..
ST – Scott Turner
GM – Gerald McCarthy (Gez/Jez)
DW – Dave Ware
KM – Kelvin Meller (Interviewer)
Q1 – Ok first obvious one, how did it all start?
ST – As I remember it, Jez and I were chatting about Halloween and he mentioned a zombie crawl and both thought that would be cool. The next day I checked Facebook and there it was, the Zombie Facebook page was up. Jez had no choice, I was in!
GM – Too much red wine on a Sunday and a Hangover idea…
DW – , It started when gez started asking the question whose up for a zombie crawl around the bay, the angle I liked was getting people to do an event in a small town and prove we can do something.
Q2 How many people told you it would never work? Or that you’d gone mad ??
ST -It wasn’t so much as they thought it wouldn’t work, just that we were mental. A few were worried it might just be us, but knew we wouldn’t mind.
GM – Wife said we’d gone mad, but mainly it was knowing how difficult it is to get people physically involved in something like this, in a small town like Herne Bay. We were all a little worried up until the day to be honest.
DW – , I think it was us that doubted it a bit, we just wondered if it would take off. Gez and Scott are mostly mad anyway 😉
Q3 did you run into many objections from local residents while planning?
ST – I think ‘normal’ people just didn’t see it coming, until it was too late. There were no objectin before or after!
GM – We didn’t tell them!
KM – lmfao classic
GM -What they didn’t know – they couldn’t object to!
KM -Very true
DW – No objections which surprised me a bit, there’s always someone ready to put pen to paper!
Q4 so at what point did they find out …….
ST – The point at which they thought they were about to be chewed on.
GM – When 250 Zombies turned up in the middle of town.(g)
KM – Nice no wonder that guy in the kebab shop looked like his world had ended
DW – they started to find out mostly through facebook and local papers were very good and then you have Gez! lol
Q5 what was the local authority’s reaction to this?
ST – Once the call came in on the day before the crawl, they wanted to support us, but make sure it was safe. They also gave us a small police presence, which made for good footage and photos, see their grins!!
GM – They were concerned that we did not have the experience or expertise to manage a large crowd of people, so we had to ask friends and family to act as Marshals. The Police also asked for a route map just so they could be on standby.
DW – Local authority were quite until near the end, infact i was surprised by that……in a good way.
Q6 What was your main source of promotion for the crawl?
ST – Facebook, Jez’s videos and Morrisons advertising board which Jez had a strange fetish about keeping tidy. He stealthier made three different posters or quite different to maximise the space available. I joined in operation ‘Pin Board tidy’ whenever I was doing my shopping.
GM – Video promotions, a range of posters, and of course – Facebook!
KM -Send me one if you have any left 🙂
DW – main source i would say was facebook and bringing it over as a family event. I thought the fact of Gez’s videos was always a talking point for people.
Q7 Why Kent air ambulance as your charity of choice?
ST – I think Dave and Gez like this one, I wanted to save the lesser spotted field mouse, but was overruled.
GM – I used my Halloween collection a couple of years ago when I turned my garage in to a Dungeon, and we chose the Kent Air Ambulance then. I suppose it’s because people forget that this service is not government funded at all – it relies solely on charitable donations to operate! The main promo poster we put up and spread on facebook, as well as all around town is this one:
DW – Kent air ambulance is always a good charity to give to. People respond to that cause.
Q8 where and when did your fascination / obsession with zombies first start (films shows comics)
ST – Early 80s, older brother secretly renting out Zombie Flesh Eaters and The Evil Dead and me watching through the crack in the door. Mr Bruce Campbell is a particular favourite of mine with a chin of beauty. My guilty pleasure is Army of Darkness, but not strictly a Zombie film at this point.
GM – I was abroad, 9 years old and I wandered down the street in to a spanish cafe where they were watching the exorcist. That freaked me out for months, ever since then there seems to be a draw toward Zombies, a bit like overly spiced food – it burns, but you love it and keep coming back for more! I can still remember being 8 and finding my brothers illegal pirate copy of the uncut evil dead he caught me so to teach me a lesson he forced me to watch DOTD mmmmm don’t think it quite worked the way he planned lmao
DW – The funny thing is I’m not a “fanatic” like some lol but what I do like is get togethers like when Gez hosts a Halloween party etc. What really got me involved is let’s “shake” Herne Bayup a bit and see if we can get a family night off the ground.
Q9 here’s a random one I’m planning on shooting a vid on household objects you can use come Z-day any ideas I will be doing a bad ideas bit on the end so give me one of each GOOD / BAD
ST – Good: Dyson hose, straight through the forward, brain sucked straight into that patented vortex of suction.
ST – Bad: Scrubbing them to death with a brillo pad.
KM – here’s a random one I’m planning on shooting a vid on household objects you can use come Zday any ideas I will be doing a bad ideas bit on the end so give me one of each GO
GM – Corr, that’s tricky, give me a few minutes…
GM A microwave on an extension lead jammed on to a Zombies head, wired to cook on full power till the head explodes. Silly one – Jamming a 12inch Buzz Light-year in to the rear of a Zombie’s head. (And taking a picture of the legs sticking out)
KM -I have 2 of them looks like buzz is in lol
DW – Maybe a zombies hand in a blender? This is more Scotts thing!
Q10 you guys were running a competition for best zombie how were you planning to judge the participants ……..
ST – I saw Gez’s answer, let’s go with that 🙂
GM – Glad you asked, were going to do the “like” numbers on the photos on facebook, but that looks a bit tricky. We’ve got about 10 prizes to give away – could you tell us your favourite 5, and we’ll choose 5? We’re gonna give them to Zombie “groups” of people, that way, more people go away happy!
DW -as Gez said.
Q11 what advise if any would you give to others planning a similar event in their towns.
ST – Target everyone, young to old, fanboys and families. As we found out, everyone enjoyed getting involved.
GM – There were 3 of us that really wanted to get this going, all with the same enthusiasm – get as many people involved in planning, advertising, charity collecting as you can, start advertising locally and on facebook at least 3/4 weeks before the event, change, and update posters constantly, email the posters to facebook friends and get them to print and stick up the posters at work, get the local papers to run a weekly build up to the event (we managed 3 consecutive weeks with almost half page editorials) See if you can a get posters up at a nearby university, If you can get video promos of the event, even better – post youtube links to other crawls to give them a feel for what one is, for make-up and costume tutorials, most of all push, push, push it all the way to the day itself.
DW – make it light hearted, make it a family event and find a kebab shop!
Q12 what does the future hold for zombies in Herne Bay
ST – I reckon we’re on to a new Herne Bay yearly tradition that has the potential to grow and grow.
GM- The future is bright…the future is more Zombies, loads more Zombies and a giant event next year.
DW- yeah a lot of what Gez has said, we went in “blind” on this one and came away very happy. Think the children wont let this go away the zombie children will demand another Zombie Crawl!
KM -Ok a couple of serious Zday questions
ZQ1 do you think a zombie apocalypse is a possibility if so where and what would be it’s cause
GM -I think history has shown than mankind can kill, on a large scale. Viruses mutate in different ways each year around the globe. If there was a specific virus that spread to our brains that could specifically target certain decision making areas of the mind in a bad way – possibly, but only very remotely. Where – major cities spread the virus the most quickly due to dense populations, when. Who knows..it could just be tomorrow.
DW Yes its possible , probably starting round Gez or scotts house when people get fed up with them lol
ZQ2 your wife has been bit do you
A) shoot her straight in the head
B) wait for her to turn and shoot her in the head
C) keep her as a pet in the basement
GM -Wait for her to turn, otherwise I’ll have make my OWN tea
DW – I think C, though it would probably end up me being the pet! lol
ZQ3 easy one for all 3, Favourite zombie top 3 films
GM -Evil Dead, Night of The Living Dead, 28 days later
DW – Evil dead Braindead and of course shaun of the dead!
ZQ 4 Who’s survival guide max brooks or Sean T Page (hint sneaky plug) ray mears or do you have any other suggestions??
GM -Sean T Page I would say…
ZQ 5 fortify or bug out , if your buggin out where are you going?
GM – I’m going out all guns blazing mate.
DW – I’ll stand behind Gez…or Scott! lol
Last one …..….Anyone you’d like thank or anything you’d like to add ?
GM – I’d like to thank all the adults and Kids that made the special effort to do something positive for Herne Bay. There’s lots of doom and gloom in the world and for a few hours on Saturday 29th October we saw lots of people having a great time. I’d like to thank 2000ad magazine and Sean T Page for their prizes which will shortly be going to some worthy Zombies. I’d like to thank Scott Turner and Dave Ware, without the collective madness of the three of us, this event could never have happened. I’d like to thank the Zombie Safe Area Team for their help in promoting the event and for bringing to our attention their great, funny web pages. And the Lego Zombie Outbreak Team for their amazing displays and for agreeing to send me one of their cool Zombie Lego Men. (please)
KM – as soon as you have idea for dates of next one tell the ministry of zombies and they will attend en mass
GM -Will do, cheers.
KM -See who says you can’t do an interview on a roof over London lmao
GM -ha ha…quality
DW – Evil dead Braindead and of course shaun of the dead!
DW – Last bit.…I’d like to thank Gez, Scott and all our families for getting in the spirit. The local papers, facebook! Dave Hammond for coming up with great photos but most of all the people of Herne bay for coming out taking part, giving donations etc and making the dream a reality and of course you guys making the trip down!
KM – Nice I’ll email over when edited thanks for stepping up and making a difference it’s not many people can do what you did well done
ST – Nice one!
GM I’m going all goooey…
DW -He was talking to me lads…;-) (russ abbott at his best)
